The concept for this new live project was born out of Muller and Mead’s collective love of  funk.

To this end they have chosen to combine the more earthy and groove based elements of their own solo efforts into an exciting, communicative and explosive form of urban funk and jazz.

Having worked together for more than 15 years in the studio and on stage, they both felt that the time was right to join forces and present the funkiest parts of their music to live audiences.

The name „Slang Funk“ perfectly describes the music, a non-standard spin on roots funk, played with passion, fire and soul.

„Slang Funk“ as a band operates with a pool of established European groove players, consisting generally of a core of five musicians (drums, bass, guitar, keys and sax).

Frank Mead:

Alto, Tenor & Soprano Saxes, Flute, Harmonica

Frank has been a successful sideman, session musician and solo artist for many years and has worked with an impressive list of internationally acclaimed artists. Gary Moore, Lowell Fulsom, BB King, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Michael McDonald, Albert King, Albert Collins, Al Green, Maxi Priest, Beverley Craven and bands like Squeeze and Go West, to name but a few.  He was a founding member of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings in the late 1990’s and continues to perform with the band in the UK and Europe. The Rhythm Kings were the house band at the 02 in London, for the Ahmet Ertegun benefit concert alongside Led Zeppelin.  At the same event The Rhythm Kings backed soul greats Solomon Burke, Ben E King, Sam Moore and Percy Sledge.

He has also toured as a soloist with the German superstar Marius Müller-Westernhagen.

Peter Muller:

Peter began life as a musician learning classical acoustic guitar for some years. At the age of 14 he was naturally drawn to the sound of the bass. In just 4 years he learned to play well enough to become a professional bass-player. Like most professionals he‘s played all kinds of gigs in all kinds of settings. Peter became a popular sideman, favoured for his heavy groove and his passion for funk.

In the 90`s he began honing his composing skills. In 2001 he finally established his own studio, “Wave Island” to record his first solo album „M-Vibez“, which became an unexpected critical success. The record received rave reviews in Bass,  Jazz and Hifi-Magazines. „M-Vibez“ has become a real "bass classic". Subsequently he has produced two more solo bass albums „The Flow“ (2008) and „No Mind“ (2014) and continues producing other artists.
